Song of the Day

Today's song is Tell It To Me by Old Crow Medicine Show.

George Washington University Lax Helmets

Check out these photos of the helmets that the George Washington University Men's Club Lacrosse team will be sporting this year. The team, which changed their name from Colonials, to Brolonials, chose HeadWrapz to design the helmet. Normally, I'm not a fan of the HeadWrapz look on helmets, but I am pretty fond of this design. The write side features the school's Colonials mascot, and the left side is the famous painting of Washington crossing the Delaware River.

Product Review: J. Crew Factory Bootcut Jeans

Manufacturer: J. Crew
(www.jcrew.com/factory)
Retail Price: $59.50

In high school, I had a go-to brand for my jeans. Feeling that I had outgrown that brand a bit, this past fall, I decided it was time to go on the search for a new denim brand. I landed on J. Crew for their reputation, and the good price at the factory store. Shopping at J. Crew Factory is available every Friday-Sunday.

I actually got these jeans at the start of October, and when they arrived, I found them to be a bit tighter than the other bootcut jeans I was used to. If I had written this review back then, it probably would've been negative.

However, the jeans broke in quite nicely (the washing machine helped), and now I really like the way they fit. They're still a little tighter than I was used to before, but I suppose that's how style changes as you grow up. I'm sure my next pair of jeans will be from J. Crew Factory.

Song of the Day

Today's song is Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine.

How to Tie a Bowtie

Ahh, an important skill for any preppy to master. Here it is, as demonstrated by a 7 year old.

College Football Bowl Picks Part 4

Here's a bold statement that isn't so bold at all: the ACC is the most irrelevant BCS football conference. They just can't win. Clemson was embarrassed by a Big East school (West Virginia) last night, which I would normally say is worst conference in college football. The final score was 70-33. Virginia and Virginia Tech were also beat by other conferences this week. The ACC is 2-6 in bowl games this year.

In last week's picks, I was 5-8. My bowl record is now 16-10, which puts the season record at 128-47.

Song of the Day

Today's song is Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not by Thompson Square.

Pour Some Sugar On Me

Last night, Michigan won the Allstate Sugar Bowl over Virginia Tech, by a score of 23-20 in OT. Virginia Tech got the ball first in overtime, but missed a field goal, which was being kicked by a former (and by former, I mean all season long) third string kicker. When Michigan got the ball, they ran three very conservative run plays, and then made a field goal for the win.

While I'm very excited about Michigan winning a BCS Bowl again, it almost feels a little cheap. Sure, Va Tech had the same opportunity, but college football overtime has teams start at the 25 yard line--that's a 37 yard field goal, which is in range for any kicker in division 1. At least have teams start at the 50 or something. Oh well.

Sugar Bowl Champs! How Sweet it is!

New Year's Resolutions

Here it is, the first post of 2012.  Many people have spent the last few weeks or so deeply contemplating what their New Year's Resolutions were going to be, and one thing in particular that keeps popping up in my Facebook News Feed is this: 20 New Year's Resolutions for 20-Somethings. It was an interesting read, and had plenty of good ideas for areas of improvement in 2012.

However, I must confess that I don't buy into the whole New Year's Resolution thing. I've been alive for 24 New Year's, but I can't ever remember once making a Resolution. I'll be honest; I don't see the point. I don't see why one day of the year is so special that that's the day everyone decides to make improvements in their lives. If I feel that I need to lose weight, or start exercising more (typically I don't and am in good shape), I can start that any day I want. I refuse to be one of the masses that gets a gym membership starting in January (for this example), but by March hasn't been to the gym in weeks.

I've also seen a bunch of previews for a new movie out called New Year's Eve, and a recurring theme is how special/magical New Year's Eve is. The truth is, it's not any different than any other day of the year. The only thing that makes it magical is the attitude people have going into it--they expect it to be magical, so they make it magical. Any day can be that special with the right attitude. Treat every day this year as if it is something that is as hyped up as New Year's Eve, and every day will be special. Today's the day that you could make an effort to stop smoking; today's the day that you could meet the person you're going to marry; today's the day that could drastically change the way the rest of your life is lived. Stop waiting around, and start making it happen.

I'm not trying to bash New Year's Resolutions, I just feel that any day can be a turning point, and people should approach each day as such. To quote the old cliche, "today's the first day of the rest of your life."

For those of you who do make New Year's Resolutions, I do hope you stick with them; and for those of you that do, I think that's great.
